Lake
Allatoona , located on the Etowah River, a tributary of
the Coosa River, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, covers an
area of 12,010 acres with a depth of 145 feet. Allatoona Lake
is one of the most frequently visited U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers lakes in the nation. The Lake Allatoona Georgia Visitor Center features
video exhibits and displays about the area's history, ranging
from the time of early Indians to the gold mining and iron
making days, from the Civil War up to the present. Allatoona Lake has a shoreline of 270 miles. The depth of the
water at the Lake Allatoona dam is 367,500 acre feet.
Few, if any Civil War battle sites contain as many original
landmarks, earthworks, and undisturbed physical features as can
be witnessed at Lake Allatoona today. Lake Allatoona, which lies to
the north and east of the battlefield.
